Project Title:

Campus-Wide Steam, Chilled Water & Electric Study

Client:

Centers for Disease Control

Location:

Roybal Campus, Atlanta, GA

Summary:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Roybal Campus consists of 1.28 million GSF of laboratory and office space. Several future facilities are planned for the campus through the year 2009 and beyond. The projected growth will increase the campus building space to 3.9 million GSF.

A master plan was performed to evaluate potential options and system capacities as well as satisfy the security and operations criteria established by the CDC. The master plan focused on several infrastructure systems including on-site steam and chilled water generation and distribution, incoming utility power, electrical distribution and on-site electrical generation options, and on-site generation options.

The planning included the evaluation of various 20 kV distribution systems. The system capacity is projected to expand from 14 MVA to 50 MVA of total campus demand.

The recommended systems included 240,000 pph of steam, 20,000 tons of chilled water, 50 MVA on normal power, and 42 MVA of on-site electric generation.
